Nyota is a twin, and her sister Rehema also attends Tumaini. They live in the Kakuma refugee camp, where the family struggle to find adequate food. Nyota & Rehema do manual work to bring in some extra income and help their parents provide for them. Sadly, they have lost five of their siblings in recent years.

Nyota wants to be a doctor when she finishes her education.
